About the event
A long-awaited offline conference from ComNews “Transport Networks Russia & CIS: Telecommunication Transport Networks In The Age Of Digital Economy, Distributed Data Centers And Cloud Services On The Cusp Of 5G” was held in Moscow on October 21-22. By the participants’ requests, online participation was available for both delegates and speakers. The event, traditionally dedicated to transport networks’ market in Russia and the neighboring countries, gathered over 350 participants across the offline and online venues, including backbone transport network operators, mobile and fixed service providers; corporate and ministerial network operators; research & development institutions; vendors of infrastructure equipment; system integrators and market analysts; investment companies; business and industry media.

TransNet 2020 was kicked off with words of welcome from Deputy General Director of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications Almazbek Kadyrkulov. The plenary discussion that followed was dedicated to the global market of backbone transport networks and its future. The second session moderated by Sergey Shavkunov from J’son & Partners Consulting, was dedicated to new technologies and opportunities in the field of transport networks. Partner of the session was T8 company. The session was kicked off by an overview of new data transfer technologies from Dmitriy Sakharchuk, Chief Architect of the Corporate Center, Rostelecom. IDC’s Telecommunications Program Manager in CEE Alexander Timoshenko spoke about the future of WAN from the perspective of Russian enterprises. Artem Puzin, Senior Solution Manager from ZTE Russia, introduced the audience to a new optical system in the age of ultra-broadband and extreme user experience. Maxim Smolenskiy, Consultant from Ciena Russia & CIS, entitled his report: “Photonic networks FlexGrid – The future is already here”. Dmitriy Pelnikevich, Chief Technical Expert from T8, spoke about T8’s high-speed DWDM-systems for interconnecting DCIs. Konstantin Lukin, General Director of SUPERTEL, shared his vision of digital interference in telecommunications. Semen Kogan, Head of OPTICs consulting engineering department, East Europe, NOKIA, dedicated his report to automation of processes and transformation of optical transport network. Yaroslav Tezadov, Head of the team for planning and calculation of transport networks at IRE-Polus, entitled his presentation: “400G at the backbone – it’s real!”.
The first day ended with a session, dedicated to the outlook for global transport network and backbone infrastructure in the lead-up to the wide-scale rollout of 5G networks. The session was sponsored by Optic Fiber Systems. Ilya Khmyrov, the first speaker of the session and Senior Accounts Manager, Network Solutions, Huawei presented an overview of the optical networking solution for 5G networks ON 2.0. Islam Md. Muzahidul, Senior Bearer Network Solution Manager, ZTE Corporation, entitled his report: “Deterministic 5G network as a foundation of unified transport for ToB and ToC services”. Andrey Abramov, IRE-Polus’ Business Development Manager, spoke about the increasing role of optical transport for 5G networks. Dmitriy Titov, Engineer from Keysight Technologies, looked into the challenges of building transport infrastructure for 5G networks. Maxim Sukhov, Chief Engineer and Training Center Instructor from ADV Consulting dedicated his presentation to Ciena WaveServer 5. The session was concluded by Andrey Nikolaev, CEO of Optic Fiber Systems, who told the audience about state-of-the-art domestic optic fiber for backbone networks.
The second day of the conference was kicked off with a survey into the current state of data center market in Russia from Igor Dorofeev, President of the Data Center Industry Association.

The session that followed was also dedicated to data centers, and specifically to Internet Exchange Points and CDN. Moderated by Georgiy Nikolskiy, Partner at Capstone Capital, this session was sponsored by CDNvideo. The first speaker was Konstantin Novikov, MegaFon’s Head of National Carrier Sales & Content Provider Services, whose presentation was entitled: “Content – closer means faster”. Vyacheslav Pushin, CTO of Light Density, spoke about cutting-edge DWDM ADVA Optical Networking solutions for data centers and backbone networks. Yaroslav Gorodetskiy, General Director of CDNvideo, shared his views on how a telecommunication service provider may boost their network performance by working with commercial CDN. The final speaker of the session was Gennadiy Chechin, Carrier Business Director of Kvant-Telecom, who offered a comparative analysis of Internet traffic exchange networks with one and several IX. Then speakers proceded to a discussion about the role of data centers, traffic exchange points and CDN in the changes of backbone networks’ topology. The discussion was joined by Egor Drobyshev, General Director of Sea-IX; Evgeniy Morozov, Sales Director of MSK-IX; Nikolay Metlyuk, General Director and Co-founder of PITER-IX; Konstantin Chumachenko, General Director of NGENIX, and also Alexey Kipchatov, Head of Sales Support, Department of Marketing and Sales Support, Company TransTeleCom (ТТК).
After a short break the conference resumed with a session, dedicated to transport infrastructure as the foundation of digital innovations, where Jun Fujita, General Director of NTT Russia, shared his views on the innovations of the future in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis, and Valeriy Chigirev, IPTP’s Business Development Manager, spoke about the outlook for the future of the global market of backbone transport networks. The session was moderated by Sergey Shavkunov, Executive Director of J’son & Partners Consulting.
The forum concluded with a round table discussion, featuring Alexey Sokolov, Director of Network Infrastructure Development, Yandex; Alexey Strekalovskiy, Lead IT systems Architect, MTS Group; Alexey Byrdin, CEO of the Internet-Video Association; Alexander Kotov, Solution Consultant at Vodafone Russia; Konstantin Kolesov, Head of strategy and connectivity of data services, Carrier relations & roaming department, VimpelCom; Alexander Antonov, Head of Product at Synterra Media, and Sergey Samoukin, Head of Corporate Department, Mail.ru Cloud Solutions. The discussion of cooperation between content providers and telecom operators was moderated by Konstantin Novikov from MegaFon.
